Geekerella Review

Geekerella - Ashley Poston

Once upon a time there lived a girl name... Me! LOL! Hey everyone and how's it going? I hope you all are doing pretty awesome! Because that is how I feel right now! So, like I've mentioned in my last post another review is here and I am gonna be sharing the story of "Geekerella" by Ashley Poston. I'm really excited to get tell you what I thought, so let's dive in!

The story is a Cinderella retelling, but this time it's dealing with GEEKDOM!!! Which I'm a proud member of! So, I am not in the right state of mind to come up with what the book is about. I am gonna use the book's blurb and call it done, because I'm tried and my mind went what the hell are you trying to do here lol! Here it is and it's borrowed from the goodreads pg.

"Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad's old costume, Elle's determined to win - unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons - before he was famous. Now they're nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake - until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?

Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom."

Okay so on to what I think!

I loved this book! It was funny and sincere and just full of geek references that I understood...okay maybe not all of them lol. I will say that I cried at least two times, at certain scenes. I was reading it out loud and just hearing the words coming out of my mouth of a scene, between Elle and her hideous step-sister Chloe. I cried and got angry, there was so much that I would have done to Chloe. I liked the interaction between Elle and Darien while they texted each other. I did a lot of awws and come on guys focus here!

I of course could not stand the step-mother Catherine and Chloe. Cal the other step-sister wasn't too bad. Sage was funny as ever and I liked that she allowed herself to befriend Elle and not judge her too much. Darien's dad is a bit of a douche. His handler Gail is just a ball of nerves and is better at handling Darien. Elle is sweet, kind, and a bit helpless. Darien is sweet, a bit vain, and really geeky.

This book like I said had me cry, laugh, get angry, and just wanted to hug it through and through. I loved the Geek reference that the author put in. Like Doctor Who and Supernatural. I loved that there was a Comic Con type scene, that it felt like I was apart of it. Even though I've never been to a Con....but I digress. It was still awesome.

So, of course I would recommend this book to everyone who is into geeky things and FANDOMS!!! lol! I will be back later with a brand new post. And, until then,

LATER DAYS!!!
